“MLK Dreams in the Cold” is a community engagement project made possible by Spaceworks Tacoma, and the Links to Opportunity. The goal of this project was to create a design strategy for the up and coming Sound Transit's Hilltop Link Extension Route. "MLK Dreams in the Cold" contains 30 voice recorded interviews with people currently living in homelessness on the streets of Hilltop. The voices of these men and women were recorded and later transcribed into quantifiable data. This data was then positioned before people of decision making power in the community so that they may better understand the culture of the neighborhood.

As a gesture of kindness several of these people offered to sign a "Blackbook". Blackbooks are a certain kind of sketchbook stigmatized and heavily associated with public vandalism. In actuality, these sketchbooks are used by artists of all kinds, often favored by artists with an urban style who choose to practice their signature into perfection.

A few of the signatures of those living in severe crisis in Hilltop are documented for you to see here.
